Photographers need to do more market research depending on the type of photography you do. Understanding the particular type of clients you want to work with. If you are in the photoshoot business, you need to know exactly what websites your clients are, you need to follow trends, brands that often bring out products. If you work with magazines and cover ads you need to know those editors’ research on specific websites. If you are w wet plate photographer, your lists of potential clients could be shorter. If you do wedding/events photography you need to know where your client’s shop and on what website they often visit. Once you decide to tackle all these, then you create a marketing plan to go after your clients, do not forget to have subsections for each client. Specializing in one area of photography is recommended nevertheless while marketing, try to cast a much wider net promoting yourself in as many ways as possible, you never know where you’d get your next client.
